Since the mid-eighties, I have loved working with computers. They allow me to do things that would otherwise be impossible for me to do. However, it's only in recent years that I have owned a cell phone and less than a year for a "smart phone". This may sound strange to many of you who are avid "smart phone" users, but I grew up in the time when you were out somewhere and needed to call someone- you looked around for a phone booth.
Well, phone booths are a thing of the past; the world has changed and continues to do so. But I wonder, is all change for the better? Is being constantly "in touch" a good thing, or is it just another distraction?
The above picture is that of a man sitting on a sailboat, absorbed by something on his phone, but he is missing out on that whale right next to him. Is this just an oddball occurrence, or do things like this happen every day?
Consider the following passage from Jesus' "sermon on the mount"...
Matthew, Chapter 7 (World English Bible)
7 “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! 12 Therefore whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
13 “Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. 14 How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it.
A relationship with God takes time and effort; the easy way is not the correct way with the Almighty. Ask, seek, knock and continue to do so. Carefully select what you believe and what you do in following God. In other words- choose the narrow gate.
Don't let real life pass you by. Open your eyes and follow God. Start with your Bible and never stop. I guarantee that you will be blessed far beyond seeing the biggest whale that ever was!!!
