What is the condition of your soul?

by Alfred Shannon Jr.

A lot of people have annual checkups from their doctor to make sure their body is doing well. The doctor will run tests that cost thousands of dollars to insure that the condition of the body is up to par. Most will exercise and eat a proper diet, and groom their outward appearance so that it looks its best. No person ever yet hated their own body, but nourishes it and cherishes it. (Eph. 5:29)
Oddly enough, these same people rarely have their souls check out to see its condition. They won’t study God’s Word. They won’t read what it has to say. They don’t even want to listen to the Word of God being preached or taught. They avoid any contact with religion or talk about God. In fact, they don’t want to be around God’s children. And the price of finding out your soul’s condition, priceless.
So let the Great Physician give your soul a biblical examination. (Mark 2:17) Do you know God’s plan of salvation? I mean, without having obeyed God’s plan, your soul will die. What does God’s plan entail?  It is really a very simple one. It requires you to know about God’s son. How that the Son of God came down from heaven and dwelt among men. He was crucified and rose again on the third day, and now sits on the right hand of the Majesty on High. His name being Jesus Christ. (Heb 1:3) Having heard and understood this (Matt. 15:10; Rom 10:17), and if you believe and confess before man that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God (Rom 10:10), if you will repent of your sins (turn from sin toward God) (Acts 2:38; Acts 3:19), and be baptized, (Acts 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21) being faithful till death (Rev 2:10; Rev. 3:11), you shall be saved from hell’s damnation and receive eternal live with God. Simple enough, right?
Now what if you are already a Christian? I need to know more about you. Do you study God’s Word? (1 Tim 4:13;) Do you teach others or are you just a learner? (Heb 5:12) Do you seek to be approved of God?(2 Tim. 2:15) Do you help the needy? Do you assist other Christians who need your help both financially and spiritually? (Gal 6:10; 1 John 3:17-18)) Do you pray to God each day? (1 Tim 2:8; 1 Thess 5:17) Are you being persecuted because you are a Christian? (2 Tim 3:12; 1 Pet. 5:9) If you answered yes to all these you are in good shape spiritually. You know, bodily exercise profits little, but godliness is profitable in all things in this life, and in the world to come. (1 Tim 4:8).
So, what is the condition of your soul? If you haven’t been baptized, get baptized. If you already have been baptized, be faithful and strong in the faith putting on the whole armor of God. Take that sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, and fight the good fight of faith. (Eph 6:11; Eph 6:16-17; 1 Tim 6:12)
