A thing of beauty is a wonder to behold; it is the magnificence of the intelligence of the mind intertwined with the complex reality designed by the Almighty. Considering the beauty of our surroundings is the mark of a cultured person; something we all should aspire to. I enjoy watching "The Antiques Roadshow" on TV because quite often they have wonderful works of art and personal items such as exquisite jewelery. However, there is great danger in longing for "things" because this can put a wrong emphasis on your life and lead to the overwhelming desire to be rich. Even if a person should become "rich" it is a transitory condition. Observation will tell you this is truth. If you "upgrade" to a bigger house or automobile, it costs more to maintain and automatically becomes a target for the criminal. James puts it this way...
WEB: James Chapter 1
But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position; and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away. For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in his pursuits.
True value lies in appreciating that which has enduring value. We grow old and die; the things we possess will pass to others or eventually be discarded. Yet, the Christian has eternity with God to look forward to. Forever is a long, long time. Focus on the Spiritual aspect of life, be as pure and holy as you can and get to know God through his word. Rejoice in what God has done for you, because his gift of Jesus has put you in an exalted position. Still feel like you are "missing something"? Look at the rainbow above, isn't that one of the most beautiful things you have ever seen? It is a promise of God and that will never change!!! Now there is both beauty and worth in a single package and its free!!!!
