Subway Mike

Sometimes after work I get a sub at the Subway in Zephyrhills. Today, I was so inclined and chatted with the overnight man, Mike. He shared with me that every thanksgiving he picks out one of his customers that has a need and buys them a full blown dinner. This year its for a family of five! He is several YEARS older than me and is still at work, so it can't be easy for him as I see he walks with a definite limp! Also, he is probably not in the $100,000/year tax bracket so his life can't be that easy. I asked if I could take his picture with my cell and post this blog and he reluctantly agreed. His attitude made me think of this passage from Corinthians; one that will take on a slightly new meaning to me from now on.

2 Corinthians 8:1-5 WEB (R)
(1) Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the assemblies of Macedonia;
(2) how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality.
(3) For according to their power, I testify, yes and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord,
(4) begging us with much entreaty to receive this grace and the fellowship in the service to the saints.
(5) This was not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.

I don't know anything about Mike's religious background, but I did see the super-wide smile on his face as he talked about his gift. He said.... "I look forward to doing this because it gives me great joy and it seems that I always get more than I give". When I had my sub later on, it somehow tasted better than usual; I wonder why????
