I always enjoyed watching Macgyver. His solutions to problems were always very creative! His ability to use the things at hand were ingenious to say the least. I guess you could call it practical wisdom. Nice thing to have- especially if faced with the above situation.
But, what if the problem you have is spiritual? How does someone change their life for the better; enough to please God, that is?
Consider the following...
1 Corinthians, Chapter 1 (WEB)
18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing.”
20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For
seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t
know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the
preaching to save those who believe. 22 For Jews ask for signs, Greeks seek after wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified; a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble; 27 but
God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame
those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world, that he
might put to shame the things that are strong; 28 and
God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are
despised, and the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing
the things that are: 29 that no flesh should boast before God. 30 But of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption: 31 that, according as it is written, “He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”
Eventually, you will be confronted with situations that are outside your abilities to solve. Hopefully, you will seek answers in the Bible; then what? Jesus explains what people will do...
Matthew, Chapter 13
18 “Hear, then, the parable of the farmer. 19 When
anyone hears the word of the Kingdom, and doesn’t understand it, the
evil one comes, and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart.
This is what was sown by the roadside. 20 What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it; 21 yet
he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or
persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 What
was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares
of this age and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he
becomes unfruitful. 23 What
was sown on the good ground, this is he who hears the word, and
understands it, who most certainly bears fruit, and produces, some one
hundred times as much, some sixty, and some thirty.”
I hope your heart is like the good ground mentioned above and you obey the Gospel. Problem solved. If not, well, so far I haven't met anyone smart enough to solve spiritual problems on their own. And I never will, either.
ps. The answer to the problem of the empty roll?
I would just get another full roll of paper or unwind the cardboard and apply it to the appropriate area. Duh.
