And then, there is the rest of that verse by Gary Rose

Drawing near to God is not just a warm, fuzzy feeling of well-being. Jesus Christ is a King and will not just be satisfied with someone just wanting to be near to him. There are conditions that the KING sets; one of them is repentance. This involves a change of mind, a change of heart and a change of direction.

Some people actually say things like: "Just accept Jesus into your heart and you will be saved". This is ridiculous! Jesus is a KING, HE accepts us on the basis of all our actions and attitudes.

James, Chapter 4 (World English Bible)
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  9 Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.  10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

We need to CHANGE to be accepted by the king. We need to purify our lives from all perceived and practiced sin. Further, we need to humble ourselves before God and HE will accept us!!!

Consider the testimony of John the Baptist...

Matthew, Chapter 3 (WEB)
1 In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,  2 “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”  3 For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying,
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
make ready the way of the Lord.
Make his paths straight.”

4  Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.  5 Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.  6 They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.  7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?  8 Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!  9 Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

10  “Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.  11 I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.” (emphasis added vss. 8-12)

There is nothing warm and fuzzy about John the Baptist. He just "tells it like it is"! Accept God's will and be blessed, or face unquenchable fire!

Matthew, Chapter 9 (WEB)
1 He entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.  2 Behold, they brought to him a man who was paralyzed, lying on a bed. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, cheer up! Your sins are forgiven you.”

3  Behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man blasphemes.”

4  Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?   5  For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Get up, and walk?’   6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” (then he said to the paralytic), “Get up, and take up your mat, and go up to your house.”

7  He arose and departed to his house.  8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

9  As Jesus passed by from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax collection office. He said to him, “Follow me.” He got up and followed him.  10 As he sat in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.  11 When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

12  When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.   13  But you go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’  for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.(emphasis added vss. 12-13)

Those outside of Jesus need to realize that they are "sick" with sin and CHANGE!!

Have you????
