I'm sitting on top of the world...

Imagine; a hard day of climbing, now, its time to relax. You have accomplished a lot... look how high we are???  We really did great today and expect to do better tomorrow.  The world really seems to be at our feet!!!  BUT, this is the most dangerous time of all.  When we succeed, pride is at the doorstep and lead us to make foolish decisions....

WEB: Luke Chapter 9

[51] It came to pass, when the days were near that he should be taken up, he intently set his face to go to Jerusalem, [52] and sent messengers before his face. They went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him. [53] They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set towards Jerusalem. [54] When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and destroy them, just as Elijah did?”

[55] But he turned and rebuked them, "“You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are.

Part of the inner circle, James and John (The sons of thunder) saw the situation with the Samaritans and felt like Elijah.  Overconfidence, pride, along with just a touch of arrogance accompanies success and this pair was not immune to it.  Jesus set them right, with a rebuke at just the right moment.  I think the brothers probably meant well; after all, Jesus deserved respect, but they forgot what their mission was all about.  So, today, remember this when things are going just as you hoped they would.... pride is just around the corner.  The world may be at your feet, but its there for a reason.  And the reason is for you to help it, NOT hurt it!!!!!!
