30 As he spoke these things, many believed in him. 31 Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s seed, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say,‘You will be made free’ ?”
The Jews believed that they were free, but they had hundreds of rules and regulation covering every aspect of their life, yet they thought they were free. In truth, there is only one freedom and that is spiritual liberation. And that freedom is in itself, truth and that is absolutely perfect in what God tells us. Listen to Jesus, know truth, obey truth and you will in fact be free. You may be the lowest of the low in your societal hierarchy, but you are special in the sight of God. Men may even put you in chains and band you like the bird above, but your soul will be free.
