Airplanes, submarines and Matthew 17... by Gary Rose

Well, here is a fact that is worth almost nothing. Or, is it?  Submarines don't fly, so why even bother discussing such a thing? For openers, if you are thinking about such ridiculous nonsense, you are NOT focusing on important matters in your life. You are wasting your time. And you only have so much time to waste and then you die.

Don't get me wrong, I love a humorous distraction; something to shake up my thinking and cause me to question what I am doing and why. But, there are limits and after a little fun, I usually get back to the business of what's really important.

What IS REALLY IMPORTANT ANYWAY? How do we determine this?

Read on, and I think you will see where I am going with this quite rapidly...

John, Chapter 17 (World English Bible)
1 After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.  2 He was changed before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.  3 Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.

4 Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

Importance- measured by committal of time, physical and spiritual effort, money, dedication; in short, what we do with our lives!  And, the more valuable something is to us, the more allocation of resources we will dedicate to it.

As long as we are considering ridiculous questions: Which has more value (importance) to us, a roll of toilet paper or a rare 4 carat yellow diamond ring? The ring of course! Because it will endure forever (as far a we are concerned, anyway).

So, things that endure (forever) have more worth than those that will not. Following this... spiritual matters have more value than temporal ones--- Because we are spiritual beings and after our bodies are worn out and we die, we will return to our maker for judgment that will seal our eternal destiny.

Since, I really do NOT want to endure eternal punishment for that which I've done against God's will in this world, I need a Savior. Jesus has provided a way out for me. Now, in the passage above, God is telling Jesus' disciples to listen to Jesus (as they should have been doing all along).

The thing is: Millions upon millions of people will listen to anyone but Jesus. Thousands of denominations, religious systems almost beyond number and yet the answer is before us- LISTEN - TO - JESUS!!!!

What would the world be like if we listened only to JESUS and actually did what he told us to do? Well, that one is hard to imagine, but this I know- the world would be full of CHRISTIANS!!!

Turn to Jesus and change the world; NOW THAT IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!!!!
